Sisu’s over 75 years of history include several groundbreaking innovations. Since 1931, Sisu has been one of the most appreciated brands in commercial vehicles.

1931-33: O/Y Suomen Autoteollisuus A/B (Finnish Automobile Industry) is founded and a competition for a name for the make was won by the Finnish name SISU. Serial production of vehicles is started.

Tor Nessling is appointed as managing director. Under his guidance, for four decades, Sisu develops and produces trucks, which are superior to its competitors.

1936: Export is launched to Estonia.

1949: The first factory-ready Sisu trucks with pickup and tail lift are manufactured.

1958: The legendary SISU bogie lift is introduced in a SISU 6x2 truck. The successful concept is still in production.

1960: Sisu de Colombia Limitada delivers the first 33 Kontio-Sisu vehicles to Colombia, starting large-scale export to South America.

1962: The Sisu KB-112 is the first European truck equipped with a hydraulically tipped cab entered into serial production.

1964: The off-road military truck KB-45, is introduced. Over 500 units are produced until 1982.

1965: As the first European truck manufacturer, Sisu introduces reinforced plastic hoods and front mudguards in bonneted trucks.

1970: Sisu introduces the rigid frame concept with closed profile cross members.

1979: Export of truck cabs is started.

1980: The S-series, which will later be awarded in various ways, is introduced. The first model is SK 150.

First prototypes of military vehicles, Pasi and Masi, are made. These vehicles gain large-scale success serving UN peace forces worldwide.

1981: Oy Suomen Autoteollisuus Ab celebrates its 50 anniversary. Oy Sisu-Auto Ab is adopted as the new name.

1985: Sisu Racing joins the FIA truck racing, winning the European championships in 1991, 1992, and 1993.

1988: Production of 5-axle truck is started.

1991: As the only manufacturer Sisu introduces 460mm high frame with integrated body components replacing the use of sub frames.

1994: Disconnection of last driven axle is taken into serial production.

1995: The first generation E-series equipped with Sisu's own cab is introduced.

2001: In connection with Sisu's 70th anniversary, the 50 000th Sisu vehicle is handed over to the customer.

The Y-frame concept for improved stability and rigidity becomes a standard in all SISU trucks.

2004: Sisu Auto specializes in factory-ready trucks. Sisu's exports increase significantly expanding into Switzerland and Abu Dhabi.

2005: Sisu introduces the new C500, R500, and C600 models at the end of the year.

2006: Sisu celebrates its 75th anniversary as a company and a brand. Sisu introduces the new model family specializing into the Crane, Rock, Roll, Timber and Works applications.

2007: Sisu re-launches Russian operations delivering 95 factory-ready SISU Timber combinations.
Sisu Defence Oy is founded specializing in military vehicles.

2008:  Sisu Auto has won an international tender for Timber Trucks to Ust Ilimsk, Russia.  The biggest international forestry organization in Russia OJSC Ilim Group and Sisu signed a contract for delivering 91 Sisu E13 6x4 timber trucks and trailers to the Ust Ilimsk factory, located in Irkutsk region. The trucks will be operating in wood supply operation for the Pulp mill of Ilim Group. This will be the biggest individual contract for delivering western timber trucks to Russia
