Sisu Auto and Daimler AG sign memorandum of understanding or component deliveries

Jul 1, 2010

Finnish special vehicle producer Sisu Auto and the world’s largest commercial vehicle manufacturer, German Daimler AG, have signed a memorandum of understanding which aims at usage of Mercedes-Benz truck components and vehicle technologies in Sisu truck products.

“Employing Mercedes-Benz trucks technology will lift Sisu products to a whole new level,” says Sisu Auto’s CEO Olof Elenius. “This way we have continual access to Daimler Trucks’, the world’s largest truck manufacturer, state-of-the-art technology, with which we can ensure our products’ economic efficiency and correspondence to the challenges of alternating legislation conditions,” Mr Elenius says.

“The new under-development vehicle design will cover all of Sisu’s current driving tasks, with focus on multi-axle vehicles for heavy-duty use. Combined with Sisu’s famously strong bodywork and axle systems, we can launch a truly competitive new truck design on the market for the most demanding driving tasks,” Mr Elenius emphasizes.

In the same connection, Sisu Auto and Veho Commercial Vehicles have agreed on deepening their cooperation commenced in 2007, resulting in Veho Commercial Vehicles being responsible for the retail sale and marketing of Sisu trucks to Finland’s civilian market. Veho Commercial Vehicles will continue taking care of Sisu trucks’ spare part functions as well as Sisu’s nationwide maintenance together with other authorized repair facilities.

Veho Commercial Vehicles has a nationwide professional sales network and its supply will now expand even further by means of the new cooperation agreement, becoming the country’s most versatile commercial vehicle-based customer-serving chain.

“This means more effective customer service, since both sales and the maintenance of Sisu trucks can again be handled under the same roof,” Mr Elenius adds.

The planning, product development and testing of the new design are in progress. The line-up will be introduced and its sales initiated in the third quarter. Customer deliveries will begin in early 2011.
